"Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become." -C.S. Lewis

2007 was an interesting year for Christian fiction as a whole and Christian Fiction Review in particular. A new baby and new ministries cut sharply into review times and updates were hardly consistent. In spite of that, 84 new books were added to the archives, bringing the total number of books reviewed on this site to well over 400. Only seven books this year received a 10/10 rating, and all seven are listed below. Three books (the first three in the list below) that received 9/10 were added to this list to round it out.

Without further ado, here is Christian Fiction Review's Best of 2007!

In High Places
by Tom Morrisey

Faced with a mind-numbing tragedy, a father and son start a new life, trying to escape it all. A moving portrayal of the search for hope. Morrissey's best novel to date.

The Legend of the Firefish
by George Bryan Polivka

A swashbuckling adventure on the high seas begins an outstanding new trilogy. Crackling action scenes are easily among the most visceral and awe-inspiring of any recent fiction.

From Bad to Worse
by Todd & Jedd Hafer

Griffin Smith's all-too-real and all-too-heartbreaking life continues through a second road trip, this time with the girl he's always loved. The palpable reality of angst and humor combined make this an unforgettable book (especially combined with its predecessor).

Summer of Light
by W. Dale Cramer

Dale Cramer returns with another tale of faith, discovery, and joy. I absolutely love all of his novels, and this is no exception. Funny, heart-warming, artistic and more. We need more stories like this.

Leaper
by Geoffrey Wood

What if you suddenly discovered a superpower... and it wasn't a very good one? What would you do? And is it God's fault? There's almost always a book like this on the best of the year list - insanely funny while still being eminently thoughtful.

Demon: A Memoir
by Tosca Lee

Eminently insightful lessons from a demon. More than just a modern-day Screwtape Letters, this is a book that will chill you to the bone and inspire you with the miracle of forgiveness. One of the absolute best books of the year.

Sky Blue
by Travis Thrasher

The power of story. The power of grace. Thrasher continues to give us thought-provoking novels. This is a book that has to be experienced, not described.

Fearless
by Robin Parrish

The second book in the Dominion trilogy maintains the relentless pace of the first, but expands the adventure. This belongs on the best of the year list strictly for its creativity and expansion of the genre.

The Cure
by Athol Dickson

Athol Dickson presents us with another beautiful literary novel. His works stand out among all Christian fiction, powerful and moving on so many levels.

Scarlet
by Stephen R. Lawhead

Lawhead's epic King Raven trilogy continues with a focus on the Hood's loyal Will Scarlet. This is Robin Hood like you've never imagined it before. If Stephen Lawhead ever publishes a book and it's not on my best of the year list, something has clearly gone wrong.
